Photo Stories

Where Photography and Film meet Digital Storytelling

In 2011 and 2015 I co-initiated and organized twice the international conference PhotoStories which took place at the Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam, Noorderlicht Photo Festival Groningen both in 2011, and Pakhuis De Zwijger, Amsterdam in 2015.

The international conference PhotoStories – Where photography and film meet digital storytelling departed from the assertion that there is a substantial lack of information on this subject in the Netherlands. Its aim is to present us new concepts of storytelling and help us to imagine new perspectives on the future of the medium.

During the conference and masterclasses, renown speakers, reflect on the history, the present and the future of multimedia production. Innovative thinkers will provided insight into the new possibilities that photography, film and digital media have to offer.

Guests and speakers were:

Todd Heisler (NY Times), Paul Moakley (TIME Magazine), Alexandre Brachet (Upian.com), Bjarke Myrthu (StoryPlanet.com), Adrian Kelterborn (Magnum in Motion / Magnum Photo), Jeremy Mendes (National Film Board of Canada), Henrik Kastenskov (Bombay Flying Club), Gideon Mendel (freelance photographer), Caspar Sonnen (IDFA DocLab), Yvo Zijlstra, Jurriaan Esmeijer (Submarine). Pieter ten Hoopen – known for the production of Hungry Horse with MediaStorm, William Uricchio – professor Media Studies at MIT and Utrecht University, David Campbell – producer and researcher for organisations such as World Press Photo.

Research

In 2011 I researched in close collaboration with Evghenia Sveshinsky and Tjitske Boogmans the development in web based interactive projects, resulting in a research report.
